RE: Newmar

As it happens Herculez, your in a much better position then the
rest of us. But I will say that for the price you paid for your
custom ordered Newmar, there should not be any "issues". Its
called Quality Control, and that seems to be lacking in the rv
industry. You would think that it would be of the upmost
importance to build an rv without "issues" paying the price you
paid. After all it wasn t given to you as a gift. That is one
reason that some of the rv mfgers are now out of business.
PS
It is not doom and gloom, it is the reality if things.
The past 5 or so years have been a "Wild West" with
wheeling and dealing. It has brought us to where we
are now. The wheeling and dealing Greed. NOw were in
for it, and the majority of us had nothing to do with it.
As far as Newmar only doing retail work Jan/Feb/Mar, that was one
of the silliest policies they ever had. Only doing retail work
in Jan/Feb/Mar. They lost alot money with that silliness. When
some one was there getting warranty work done, they couldn t get
retial work done. What nonsense. NOw they can do it, Why because
the need the money. It should have been that way right along.

RE: Newmar

Is Mahlon Miller the owner of Newmar selling his acreage and
equipment, so that he can put the money into the business to keep
core employees and the business afloat.?? Now if things were bad
this year, wait until next year. It is going to get a whole
lot worse. Unemployment is slowly on the rise, people are losing
there jobs, the government just approved an extension to the
unemployment benefits. Over 155 stores and chains are closing. The
unemployment from that will be staggering. The money well at Newmar
and other rv manufacturers better be really deep. Whats coming isn t
going to be nice.

RE: Dirty Roof Top

I would never stand on a slide out roof, I don t believe
they were designed for that. To clean the side out roof and the rv
roof, I bought one of those extendable poles from Home Depot. I also
bought a Big Rig brush. I use a kitchen anti bacterial soap. These
soaps are compatable with the material used on rv roofs and won t do
any damage. I take the garden hose with me on the roof (connected
to water of course) I also have a wall paper bucket, there used to
soak the wall paper for application. The big rig brush fits in this
bucket very nicely. I use a concentration of water and the anti
bacterial soap together, the big rig brush and extendable pole reach
the slide out roofs very easily. When I finish washing the slides
I do the rv roof. Be sure to lift the tv antenna and clean under it.
If you have any stubborn dirty spots, I have a sqirt bottle with a
more concentrated anti bacterial solution, and use that on the spot
and then go over it again with the big rig brush. The garden hose
rinses everything off the roof as I clean it. It works well for me.
I also use a 12 ft step ladder to access the roof. With all the
"stuff" you need, the rv ladder doesn t do it. Besides the step
ladder is alittle safer. You could also use Dawn dish washing
detergent. It doesn t leave a film on the roof, nor does it hurt
the roof material. Hope that helps you guys.

RE: Leaving and Returning to Long Island

The BQE is currently under construction. The lanes are bounded
by Jersey barriers and are very narrow. Even the truckers
complain about it. I also live on Long Island. We always leave
vie the CBE and the GW. Leave early on a saturday morning and you
won t have aproblem. Come home on a saturday that way the truck
traffic will be at a minimum. As much as the Cross Bronx Expwy
can be and is P I T A, the BQE is still worse. Just make sure
you go easy on the CBE approach to the GW. The road surface is
horrendous.

RE: Tow Vehicle

For you gentlemen with the GMC and the DODGE. What is the
GCWR for the vehicles. My 03 duramax 3500 cc lb dually will pull the unit with no problem either. Its stopping that becomes a problem, and God Forbid you have an accident with a vehicle that is not within
the weight guidelines. Some sharp attorney will rip you a
new one financially. I don t need that nor do I want that Yeah there are many of you out there towing way over the limit. That may
be okay for you, but it isn t for me. One day the state police will
start do weight checks. Its just a matter of time. It will be
another way to generate revenue, which if you read the papers is in
short supply in every state. Its only a matter of time until some
politician gets the idea that this is another way to collect money.
So lets be on the safe side. This is my idea about things. All of
you out there that are comfortable with towing way over weight. I am
happy for you. Just not me.

RE: A/C Stopped working on TV??

Sometimes it is the aspirator, I think thats what its called.
The things that senses the inside temps. I have an 03 Duramax and on
my truck the aspirator is in the headliner. It needed to be replaced.
Once replaced it worked fine. Have also heard that if system is low
on freon no climate control. It will blow hot or warm.

Tow Vehicle

Want to tow a fifth wheel with a gross weight of 20,000 lbs.
A 1 ton could do that, but not safely. I dont want to go with Ford.
An M2 Business Class has a price tag of around 100k plus, Not an
option. GM haulers have a GCWR of 26000 lbs, besides having the same
power train as the 1 ton. Dodge, they seem to have transmission
problems. I do not want to go with a class 7 / 8 either, they are
big for a daily driver. So whats left??

RE: Hydronic Zone Propane Heating

I am in agreement with doughere. We spent a week at the Newmar
Service Center in mid Feb this year. We were in a Mountainaire 5er.
The temps were in the single digits during the day and in the minus
single digits at night. We used 40 lbs of propane every other day
with the forced air furnace in the unit. We stayed warm and comfy
but burnt a boat load of propane for the week. A Hydoronic Zone
propane heat system would have been far better. Water hear comes
up slow but lingers a long time, where as forced air heat comes up
very quickly but also leaves quickly. In a Hydronic Zone propane
heating system, dual pane windows, and a thermal insulation pkg
would be the cats meow. Not to mention the dual pane windows
and the thermal insulation pkg would do wonders in the summer heat.
I made the Hydronic Heat suggestion to Newmar three years ago but
never thought they would take me up on it. Hydronic Heat has been
in motorhomes for along time. Moho people seem to like the Hydronic
Heat system very much. So it stand to reason it should work as
well in a 5er. For alot of years fifthwheels have been what seems to
be a stepchild in the rv business.
